William Blair’s Secondary Advisory team provides financial sponsors and investors with holistic, bespoke solutions across all stages of the private equity lifecycle. The team offers premier guidance for GP-led transactions like continuation vehicles, fund restructurings, spin-outs, and LP-led transactions. An Analyst supports new business development, transaction execution, and delivery of private market products to clients and prospects.

Analysts build bottom-up three-statement and LBO financial models using core valuation methods, integrating fund-level analysis like GP/LP distributions and waterfalls. They perform due diligence, research, financial analysis, and documentation for potential and live transactions. Daily tasks include maintaining deal trackers, scheduling buyer calls, updating Salesforce, and managing transaction processes with investor tracking.

The role involves active participation in client meetings, internal discussions, and buyer dialogues, taking thorough notes and sending follow-ups. Analysts partner with senior team members to develop marketing materials highlighting William Blair’s competitive advantages. They anticipate deal issues, convey concerns in real time, and assist in proposals and presentations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Prior experience in investment banking, private equity or Big 4 transaction services required; previous experience as an Analyst preferred
  • Profound understanding of corporate finance and accounting concepts with strong knowledge of core valuation methodologies including public and precedent transaction comparables
  • Excellent work ethic and genuine curiosity for private markets transactions
  • Sound judgement, coachability, and ability to balance assertiveness with open-mindedness
  • Detail oriented with strong analytical abilities, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage expectations of senior bankers while working on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Commitment to satisfying internal and external customers

Responsibilities

  • Build bottom-up three-statement and LBO financial models to evaluate client outcomes using core valuation methods and fund-level analysis
  • Perform due diligence, research, financial analysis, and documentation of potential and live transactions
  • Assist in the development, production, and delivery of proposals and presentations to clients and prospects
  • Take ownership of deal admin tasks such as maintaining deal trackers, scheduling buyer calls, and updating Salesforce
  • Actively participate in client meetings, internal discussions, and buyer dialogues
  • Manage transaction process including investor tracking and client communications
  • Partner with senior team members to develop marketing materials
  • Mentor summer interns and teach best practices to subsequent analyst classes
