PACE is BlackRock's strategic analytics engine powering alternative investments performance and risk analytics across eFront tools. This role leads the architecture, delivery, and operational excellence of the platform, driving technical strategy and scaling for alternative investment professionals.
Day-to-day, you will drive calculation engine direction for IRR, TWR, and NPV calculations, define platform architecture, and design gRPC APIs using Protocol Buffer contracts while championing engineering best practices across the Java/Spring Boot microservices ecosystem.
Delivery responsibility includes ensuring timely release of critical components, managing production operations, and driving over 90% test coverage for critical paths. You will balance technical debt against new features while maintaining system consistency through shared libraries and Protocol Buffer contracts.
You will partner with Product to communicate with senior leadership and build relationships with Portfolio Managers and Fund Analysts. The platform consists of multiple interconnected services including Fund, Asset, Portfolio, Transaction, Benchmarking, ESG, and Holding services.
This role demands deep technical expertise, strategic thinking, and business acumen in alternative investments. You will be accountable for critical platform components and technical decisions with firm-wide impact, shaping the analytics backbone for private equity, real estate, and infrastructure portfolios.
Requirements
- 5–10+ years of Java software engineering experience.
- 5+ years in technical leadership roles.
- Track record delivering large-scale distributed systems.
- Background in financial services technology, alternative investments preferred.
- Deep expertise in Java 17+ and Spring Boot 3.x.
- Experience with gRPC, Protocol Buffers, and Maven.
- Infrastructure experience with Azure, AKS, Docker, and Kubernetes.
- Proficiency in CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
Responsibilities
- Define and evolve the platform architecture for the PACE analytics engine.
- Lead the direction of the calculation engine for IRR, TWR, and NPV calculations.
- Drive gRPC API design and Protocol Buffer contract development.
- Champion engineering best practices across the Java/Spring Boot microservices ecosystem.
- Ensure timely delivery of critical platform components and manage production operations.
- Drive over 90% test coverage for critical paths and balance technical debt against new features.
- Partner with Product to communicate technical strategy to senior leadership and build relationships with Portfolio Managers and Fund Analysts.
