About this role
Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan (OTPP) is Canada's largest single-profession pension plan with CAD $270 billion in net assets. The London office manages ~$38B of assets, including ~C$8B in Private Capital. We seek an Associate for the Private Capital team focused on direct investments in Europe.
Your time will be spent evaluating new investments by conducting industry and company research, building sophisticated financial models, and reviewing due diligence materials. You will prepare internal support materials and written recommendations to the Investment Committee. This analysis determines if companies represent attractive opportunities.
Join the Private Capital department with global AUM of $61B, investing in Financial Services, Technology, and Services across control and co-control stakes. The European portfolio features companies like Busy Bees, 7IM, Donte Group, and Max Matthiessen. OTPP has invested in Europe since 1992, with the London office since 2007.
Post-transaction, attend board meetings as an observer and work with management on value-enhancing initiatives, M&A, debt refinancings, and budgeting. Assist in identifying target sectors and generating proprietary deal flow through desk research, bankers, and conferences. Gain integral involvement in the European direct private equity strategy.
Requirements
- An undergraduate degree
- 2-3 years relevant work experience in private equity, investment banking, or consulting
- Very strong financial modelling and valuation skills
- Robust analytical and quantitative skills for in-depth, creative, critical analysis
- Deep understanding of fundamental investment analysis
- Ability to develop knowledge of economic/business characteristics and trends across industries
- Excellent communications skills, both oral and written, with solid presentation skills
- Can-do attitude, hunger to learn and grow, maturity, composure, and strong interpersonal skills
