Wedlake Bell is recruiting for a Risk & Compliance Lawyer to join our growing Risk & Compliance team. This is a full-time, permanent role, though part-time applicants will be considered. Work collaboratively with the Risk & Compliance Director (COLP) to provide firm-wide support on risk and compliance matters.
The role involves handling day-to-day risk and compliance issues while contributing to the development of awareness, policies, and procedures. Provide advice regularly sought by Partners, fee-earners, and business support leaders. This highly-visible position covers a wide remit in a top City practice.

Requirements
- Qualified solicitor with at least 5 PQE
- Prior experience in a Risk & Compliance position or significant exposure to risk issues in fee-earning capacity
- Knowledge of SRA Handbook, Principles, and Code of Conduct
- Experience advising on professional indemnity insurance and claims
- Familiarity with handling complaints, conflicts, confidentiality, and disclosure issues
- Ability to draft and advise on risk and compliance policies and procedures
- Experience maintaining compliance registers and supporting audits
Responsibilities
- Provide front-line advice and guidance to Partners, lawyers, and business support teams on legal and regulatory risk and compliance issues, escalating where appropriate
- Assist the Director of Risk and Compliance in advising on Professional Indemnity and other insurance reviews, renewals, queries, claims, and circumstances
- Assist the Director as COLP in recording, investigating, and managing complaints from start to finish, feeding back lessons learned
- Offer expert advice on the SRA Handbook, including Principles and Code of Conduct, and professional conduct queries like conflicts, confidentiality, and disclosure
- Draft, monitor, and advise on the Firm's risk and compliance policies and procedures
- Maintain the Firm's central registers that relate to risk and compliance
- Support and manage the Firm's annual audit processes
