About this role

The FCA is creating a fair and more resilient financial system through transparent relationships between financial services and customers. The Head of Capital Markets Department leads work at the heart of the UK’s wholesale financial markets to build trust and protect market integrity.

The department sets rules that govern how financial markets operate and supervises firms active in those markets. It forms part of the Infrastructure & Exchanges Directorate within the wholesale markets area of Supervision, Policy and Competition.

You will help deliver the FCA’s five-year strategy by being a smarter regulator, supporting economic growth, helping consumers, and fighting financial crime. Significant digital and data transformation programmes are underway to strengthen regulatory effectiveness.

This role offers the chance to shape policy and supervision at a pivotal time for UK capital markets while contributing to the FCA’s position as a world leader in financial services regulation.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in wholesale financial markets regulation
  • Strong background in capital markets policy or supervision
  • Proven ability to lead regulatory teams and drive organisational change
  • Deep understanding of market infrastructure and exchanges
  • Experience applying data and technology to regulatory work

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Capital Markets Department within the Infrastructure & Exchanges Directorate
  • Set rules that govern how financial markets operate
  • Supervise firms that are active in capital markets
  • Drive delivery of the FCA’s five-year strategy priorities across capital markets
  • Use data and digital tools to improve regulatory decisions and market oversight
  • Strengthen cohesion across wholesale markets supervision, policy and competition
