As the 3rd Line of Defence, Internal Audit provides enterprise-wide, independent, and objective assurance over the Bank’s internal controls, risk management and governance processes. The Senior Audit Manager assists in leading internal audit activities for GBM Europe.
Acts primarily as Officer in Charge (OIC) for assigned audits, overseeing execution, planning, and reporting. Obtains thorough understanding of end-to-end business processes and risks, developing risk-based audit approaches and scheduling resources. Ensures audit results are gathered with root cause analysis for management presentation.
Supports client-focused culture to deepen relationships and leverage Bank systems and knowledge. Builds and maintains strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders and regulators. Understands how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture influence day-to-day activities and decisions.
Supports ongoing monitoring of business, industry, regulatory changes, and emerging risks impacting audit plans. Fosters high-performance environment using coaching mindset to attract, retain, and develop team. Ensures adherence to Scotiabank standards and IIA Code of Ethics in all assignments.
Requirements
- Experience leading internal audit activities in financial services
- Knowledge of internal controls, risk management, and governance processes
- Ability to use data to deliver assurance and insights
- Understanding of risk appetite and risk culture in banking
- Familiarity with regulatory compliance, internal policies, and procedures
- Adherence to Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) Code of Ethics
- Skills in identifying and addressing control weaknesses
Responsibilities
- Act as Officer in Charge (OIC) for assigned audits and Audit Principal (AP) for low to medium complexity audits
- Oversee audit execution, planning, and reporting with risk-based approaches
- Develop understanding of end-to-end business processes and associated risks
- Gather audit results, determine root causes, and prepare findings for management
- Follow up on corrective actions and share relevant information across audit functions
- Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders and regulators
- Support monitoring of changes in business, industry, regulations, and emerging risks
- Foster inclusive high-performance team environment with coaching and development
