The role reports to the Head of Financial Crime Compliance and provides day-to-day legal assistance to the financial crime compliance team. Work closely with partners, counsel, regional compliance leads, and local money laundering reporting officers. Act as the local Anti-bribery & corruption officer for Mayer Brown International LLP.

The Financial Crime Compliance team oversees AML/CTF, sanctions, anti-bribery, and other financial crime laws across the firm. Support harmonising cross-border approaches, developing policies, procedures, and training. Thrive in a collegial, collaborative, diverse environment focused on exceptional client service.

Hours are 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with flexibility in accordance with business needs. Flexible working arrangements are considered. Highly motivated individuals receive support and development to grow and realise their potential.

Requirements

  • Strong academic background
  • Qualified lawyer admitted in England & Wales or another relevant overseas jurisdiction
  • Knowledge of AML/CTF, sanctions and anti-bribery laws
  • Experience providing legal assistance in financial crime compliance
  • Ability to conduct risk assessments and review CDD exemptions
  • Familiarity with suspicious activity reporting and regulatory liaison
  • Understanding of sanctions-related intake and client monies rules
  • Skills in developing policies, procedures and training for compliance

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day assistance to the financial crime compliance team, including risk assessments, reviewing risk ratings and CDD exemption requests
  • Respond to queries from clients, lawyers, support staff and financial crime compliance staff
  • Assist with responses to regulatory audits and advise on sanctions-related intake matters
  • Support the Firm's reporting procedures for suspicious transactions/activity and sanctions, liaising with local MLROs and regulatory authorities
  • Handle queries from Firm's Accounts staff relating to client monies
  • Keep abreast of key financial crime compliance legal and regulatory developments
  • Support oversight of compliance with anti-bribery, tax disclosure regimes and Accounts and Escrow Rules
  • Support developing and delivering training programs for lawyers, support staff and the compliance team
