The role assists the General Counsel’s office of a leading Am Law 50 and Global 50 law firm in providing risk-related advice and managing compliance matters for offices in Europe and Asia, with primary focus on the UK, Hong Kong, and Singapore. Our Global Operations Team, all business professionals, was named the “Best Business Team” by The American Lawyer.

Day-to-day involves regulatory management like Solicitors Regulation Authority records and practising certificates, plus legal research on professional rules, financial crime, modern slavery, data privacy and more. Support policy development, project work, annual audits on data privacy, ESG and diversity reporting. Assist with vendor contract reviews and deliver risk compliance training to staff.

Requirements

  • 0-5 years’ post qualified experience as a lawyer
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to exercise tact, diplomacy, and discretion
  • Good understanding, or the ability to quickly gain an understanding, of the legal and regulatory regimes in Europe and Asia, particularly the UK, Hong Kong, and Singapore
  • Familiarity with the types of work undertaken by the firm and its various support functions
  • Works well as part of a team, is flexible, and willing to contribute where needed
  • Previous risk and compliance experience is advantageous but not essential

Responsibilities

  • Assist with managing Solicitors Regulation Authority records, including the annual bulk renewal of practising certificates, and maintaining general corporate records
  • Research and provide guidance on legal and regulatory issues affecting the firm and its personnel, including professional rules, financial crime, modern slavery, disclosure regimes, and data privacy
  • Assist in the production and updating of internal and external written policies, procedures, and guidance on legal and regulatory issues
  • Support project work and annual audits, including those related to data privacy, modern slavery, diversity reporting, ESG, and professional continuing competence
  • Assist with the vendor contract review process
  • Help develop and deliver risk and compliance training to secretaries, trainees, and new associates
