About this role

This is an exciting opportunity to join a strongly performing global equity team at junior level to assist in the management of Global and Asian portfolios. Support and manage equity assets and portfolios managed in CLAM, reporting on performance to the Head of Equities. This includes performance against benchmarks within risk limits.

The role supports input to day-to-day management of equity funds, asset allocation meetings and client reporting. The market span is global with a focus on the Asia market. Manage and monitor equity portfolios in accordance with policies, procedures and statutory requirements.

Canada Life Asset Management manages over £41.9bn in fixed income, global equities, UK property and multi-asset solutions. The team has over 100 colleagues including more than 50 experienced investment professionals with almost 20 years' average industry experience. Parent company Great-West Lifeco has total assets under administration of £1,341bn.

Over time this will develop into a senior role with greatly expanding responsibilities. Contribute to discussions on the economy, markets, asset allocation, specific transactions and exposures. Support the embedding and monitoring of ESG activity across the CLAM business.

Requirements

  • Good communicator and strong presentation skills with an ability to present at Board level
  • Mandarin speaking (highly desirable)
  • Degree in Economics or a numerate subject (required)
  • CFA or willingness to undertake CFA or equivalent (highly desirable)
  • Experience supporting equity portfolio management and performance reporting
  • Knowledge of global equity markets with focus on Asia
  • Understanding of investment risk limits and benchmarks

Responsibilities

  • Manage and monitor equity portfolios in accordance with policies, procedures and statutory requirements to achieve required return within risk limits
  • Support reviews to ensure appropriate processes, procedures, policies, standards and systems are in place and seek improvements
  • Manage specific projects required by the Equities team such as derivatives implementation or Bloomberg AIM
  • Contribute and manage discussions on the economy, markets, asset allocation, specific transactions and exposures
  • Support the embedding and monitoring of ESG activity across the CLAM business
  • Report on the activities and performance of the portfolios to relevant internal and external stakeholders
  • Ensure that the investment process appropriately manages day to day market risks
