About this role

We are hiring an experienced analyst within our key Commercial Risk team, focusing on supporting the Gas, LNG, Power & Emissions trading teams. This role offers exposure to all parts of the business, partnering with front office, risk, finance, credit, IT and more. The team manages and monitors the company’s risk exposures and valuations.

Daily responsibilities include position and P&L reporting with commentary on key value generators and changes. Review trading books for adherence to Trading Delegations of Authority, ensure correct hedging including FX exposure, and monitor trader exposures against risk limits. Perform daily hedge processes and interact with trading desks and middle office.

Provide regular commentary on book performance and strategy to various audiences, along with management information and commercial analysis. Support weekly, monthly, quarterly controls and financial close processes for the designated business area. Utilise cross cover capabilities to enhance team flexibility.

The role requires deep insight into commodities trading and risk management, including physical/paper exposure, FX, VaR, and P&L valuation. It can expand to other commodities like Crude, Biofuels, Refining, Oil Products, developing further leadership accountabilities over time.

Requirements

  • Degree level education, preferably in Business/Finance/Banking/Mathematics/Statistics/Engineering, or with appropriate work experience
  • Proven experience in an energy commodity, Gas, Power, LNG, Emissions in a risk or front office role
  • Deep understanding of P&L attribution and valuation
  • Understand standard Risk measurement tools e.g. VAR, Stress Testing and Options
  • Commercially aware with proven ability to provide input to new business initiatives and models
  • Ability to interact with a variety of people with an analytical and detailed oriented mindset
  • Able to take, and maintain, an independent approach and challenge where appropriate
  • Proficiency in VBA/Python/SQL is desirable; Knowledge of Endur/EOS will be beneficial

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the daily position and P&L reporting for Gas, Power, LNG, Emissions and FX teams providing commentary on key value generators and changes
  • Review trading books are within Trading Delegations of Authority, and ensure the hedging is carried out correctly each day, including hedging of trading FX exposure
  • Monitor traders exposures and adherence to Delegation of authorities and risk limits
  • Perform daily hedge process as required
  • Daily interaction with relevant trading desks and other front/middle office departments to support business risk management requirements
  • Provide regular commentary on book performance and strategy, showing clear understanding and control to a variety of audiences
  • Provide management information and analysis as required and proactively seek to provide business beneficial commercial analysis
  • Responsible for weekly/monthly/quarterly controls and input into financial close processes as required for designated business area
