As Head of Data Governance for Financial Crime Risk & Core Compliance you will adopt and implement data governance strategy, frameworks, policies and standards across the Compliance department.
Reporting to the Head of FCOE Operations, this leadership role involves managing data-related risks, creating and maintaining data dictionaries, and fostering a culture of data literacy across Compliance and the wider MUFG organisation. You will collaborate with the EMEA Systems Office, wider GFCD and Compliance stakeholders to ensure data is a trusted asset for decision-making.
The Compliance department covers both Financial Crime and Core Compliance activities, protecting MUFG’s reputation, business, and clients within the regulatory and legal framework. You will work closely with the EMEA ECO/FCOE teams, EMEA Planning Department, and European Operations Division to improve data quality and controls.
This position offers the opportunity to shape data governance in a highly regulated, globally significant financial institution with over 150,000 colleagues. You will support both run the bank and change the bank activities, ensuring changes are accurately assessed and approved, while leading a team of at least six direct reports.
Requirements
- Strong leadership skills with experience managing teams in a financial services or regulated environment.
- Knowledge of financial crime and compliance frameworks, including regulatory expectations.
- Expertise in data governance within highly regulated environments, including data quality frameworks and data dictionaries.
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams such as Systems Office, Planning, and Operations units.
- Ability to manage data-related risks and implement effective controls.
- Proven ability to foster data literacy and drive cultural change around data management.
- Familiarity with both run the bank and change the bank project environments.

- Collaborate with the EMEA Systems Office, GFCD, and Compliance stakeholders to ensure data is a trusted asset for decision-making.
- Support both run the bank and change the bank activities by assessing and approving changes to data processes accurately.
- Provide leadership to a team of at least six direct reports, guiding them on data governance priorities.
