Join us as a Legal Counsel in Corporate Banking & Structured Lending. Deliver the legal strategy and provide expert, accurate and cost-effective legal advice. Your role sits within our Commercial & Institutional business area, requiring understanding of associated legal issues.

Manage and coordinate the delivery of legal advice, supporting Commercial & Institutional business. Work closely with stakeholders and legal colleagues to ensure timely, effective and efficient delivery of issues, projects and initiatives. Make legal advice readily understandable to non-lawyers and manage legal risks.

Be recognised as an expert in your field, exposed to stakeholders across the bank and externally. Provide communication of internal and external legal advice in a commercial, user-friendly manner. Deliver transactions and projects efficiently to stakeholders.

Drive continuous improvement in operating practices and processes, identifying efficiencies and cost reductions. Manage legal costs through e-billing, auctions and other tools. Foster a culture of disciplined cost management and controls.

Requirements

  • Qualified lawyer with experience providing legal and commercial advice on transactions in-house or in a leading UK law firm
  • In-depth knowledge of general banking law and practice and the financial services industry
  • In-depth knowledge of LMA lending transactions and market as well as banking law
  • Knowledge of commercial and private banking business activities and associated legal issues
  • Ability to establish and maintain strong relationships across the bank
  • Experience working with leading law firms and other professional advisers
  • Ability to keep up to date with and share relevant legal and market developments

Responsibilities

  • Manage legal costs using e-billing, auctions and other tools
