About this role
Goldman Sachs Asset Management Legal seeks a derivatives lawyer with asset management experience to deliver counsel on OTC derivatives, cleared swaps, futures, repo and FX prime brokerage. The role sits at the intersection of finance and law, supporting trading activities while managing regulatory and reputational risk across global markets.
Day-to-day work centres on the trading and documentation of derivatives and related products for mutual funds, private funds and institutional clients. The lawyer analyses regulatory developments, advocates positions and collaborates with industry groups and internal stakeholders to implement changes affecting these transactions.
The position forms part of both the EMEA Asset Management Legal team and the global GSAM Derivatives Legal team. These groups operate within a broader worldwide Asset Management Legal function that provides ongoing trading and markets support from offices spanning 23 cities.
The Legal Division invests in its people through a weekly legal training programme, divisional mentoring schemes and a dedicated people development committee. Requirements
- 5+ years related legal experience post qualification in a reputable law firm, fund, asset management firm or investment bank.
- Strong substantive knowledge of and significant experience in derivatives.
- Experience with pension funds/schemes a plus.
- Outstanding law firm and law school credentials with US or UK legal qualification preferred.
- High level of initiative, integrity, organizational and commercial instincts.
- Adept at developing interpersonal relationships.
- Strong written and verbal communications skills.
Responsibilities
- Provide legal coverage for the trading and documentation of OTC derivatives, cleared swaps, futures, repo, cleared repo and FX prime brokerage.
- Analyse global regulatory changes affecting derivatives trading and documentation and lead related advocacy efforts.
- Partner with the asset management business and industry groups to implement regulatory changes across relevant transactions.
- Support GSAM mutual funds, private funds, alternative investment funds and institutional clients on trading and markets matters.
- Deliver high-quality legal advice while managing regulatory and reputational risk for the firm and its clients.
