About this role

Eku Energy is a leading global energy storage business working across the full project lifecycle. The company is seeking an Asset Management Lead covering UK and EMEA for its battery storage business. This pivotal role prepares for and manages the operational phase of BESS projects under construction and in operations.

You will provide oversight and reporting of all operational activities for a portfolio of grid-connected BESS assets. You will manage the transition of projects from construction into operations, working alongside Eku’s construction delivery, WHSE, finance, technical and legal teams. Implement systems to deliver best-in-class asset management services, maximizing technical performance and asset revenue.

As Principal Contractor, you will manage day-to-day asset management and operational activity, including 3rd party contractor performance. You will coordinate WHSE practices on operational BESS sites, developing key operations plans and controlling site works. Eku Energy is jointly owned by Macquarie Asset Management and British Columbia Investment Management.

Since launching in November 2022, Eku has experienced accelerated growth, now with 4.6GWh in development, construction and operation across multiple markets. The company aims to deliver 9GWh by 2028. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to global asset management strategy and establish best practice for Eku’s battery storage assets.

Requirements

  • Experience in asset management of utility-scale energy storage or power generation assets.
  • Knowledge of battery energy storage systems (BESS) technology and operations.
  • Understanding of UK and European electricity markets and grid services.
  • Proven ability to manage contractors and third-party service providers.
  • Strong project management skills for transitioning projects from construction to operations.
  • Experience with WHSE practices and compliance on operational sites.
  • Financial acumen for budget creation, tracking, and project funding coordination.
  • Leadership experience managing direct reports.

Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight and reporting of all operational activities relating to a portfolio of grid-connected BESS assets.
  • Manage the transition of projects from construction into operations, working alongside Eku’s construction delivery, WHSE, finance, technical and legal teams.
  • Implement systems and build platforms to deliver best-in-class Asset Management services, seeking to maximise technical performance and asset revenue.
  • Ensure technical performance of BESS projects and engage with Commercial teams and Route-to-Market Contractors to maximise asset revenue.
  • As Principal Contractor, manage day-to-day asset management and operational activity as well as 3rd party contractor activity for operational Eku sites in UK/EMEA.
  • Active monitoring of site availability and key performance indicators, managing the logging and investigation of all site events and outages.
  • Identification, tracking and management of all contractual and regulatory obligations associated with the BESS projects at a country and project level.
  • Management of Eku staff, including direct reports within the Asset Management team.
